Are Walmart Patio Deals Really Deals?

May 2nd, 2008 Written by Garry Conn

The weather is nice out and I am sure that you are looking for some good deal on patio furniture. I am too actually and I have been searching around a little bit to find some of the best deals. The problem with deal catching is the fact that when you find a product with a good price, quality is very much lacking and most always is masked.

Walmart as always has patio deals. In fact they are advertising their Walmart patio deals directly on their website. According to the Walmart.com web site, Walmart is offering patio sets starting at $198, patio furniture and patio accessories all for sale at a cheap discounted price. But what I wonder is if the initial savings will actually cost the consumer more in the long run?

My thoughts are rather simple here. I think that in the long run, if you’re going to invest more money into higher quality items, they will, in theory, last much longer, thus eliminating the need to replace lower quality items. In other words, catching the best deals, doesn’t always mean that you’re also getting the best quality.

In fact, take the case here with the Walmart patio sets, furniture and accessories, is the quality and craftsman ship really there? Do you think that the Walmart patio set starting at $198 compares to a patio set being sold at Lowes or Home Depot for $500 or more? To me it doesn’t seem like you to be a rocket scientist looking for heavy equipment jobs to realize that you do indeed get what you pay for.

There is nothing wrong with catching a deal. But the key thing to remember is that there is a HUGE difference between buying cheap products that are priced accordingly and buying high quality prices at a discount. In the case of Walmart patio furniture, I wouldn’t considering making this purchase for the fact that I know that I am buying junk. The $198 dictates the level of quality.

For me, I would purchase a much high grade of patio furniture but do so off season when retailers are trying to clear out their inventory. I don’t think it would be wise at all to purchase patio furniture during the “In Season” as it is near impossible to find a great deal, which leaves you with the only alternative of purchasing from Walmart.

I must say that I LOVE Walmart but I don’t always feel their prices are great deals. I do love their dollar racks and sales on clothes but when it comes to bigger items I like to shop around. The good thing about walmart though is if you find something they have cheaper somewhere else bring in the paper that has the price and they’ll match it.

Who in the world would ever assume that a $198 patio set from anywhere would be as good as a $500+ set?

It would amaze you to overhear angry customers in the Customer Service section of Wal-Mart. :)
