Awstats - A Web Stats Program That Comes On cPanel.

I am sure that you can download it and install on any web server, but as I know it, Awstats can be found in my cPanel. Anyway, I have a post a few days ago wondering which web stats program is the best. Google Analytics was mentioned… I am impressed. That is a ton of information. But unless someone can prove me wrong, I think Awstats is more accurate. I could be wrong… don’t know too much about this, but I am guessing that Awstats is a program that gets its data direct from my server logs. Google Awstats doesn’t collect the info from my server logs. I have to place a java script code into my site so that it can attain the information.

Now I am not a very educated person… but tell me if I am wrong… That technology has been around for awhile and is no different than site meter, or extreme tracking, or others similar.

Awstats tells me pretty bluntly what I want to know: Unique visits, Total Visits, Page Views, and where the visit came from…. If I want to research why these stats are the way they are, then Awstats provides additional tools to do so. I know what Browser people use here, What operating system, their IP address, Country, State, City… your ISP!

Awstats really seems to be (in my eyes) a very excellent web stats program. I see nothing wrong with it…. It’s older, not as pretty as Google Analytics… I don’t have colorful 3D charts…. I DO HAVE CHARTS!!! Just not in 3D….

Unless anyone can show me a program that is better… and free of course… I think I will officially be using Awstats to gather stats from this site.

It sounds like both are pretty nice, I use Analytics because I’ve been using it for a while. I should give Awstats a try and see which one I would like more.

Hey man… props to you man, for suggesting the program. Analytics is great… but I just feel that it is a very deluxe version of what has already been out there for many years.

I for some reason, am hooked on Awstats… I am waiting for Vex to chime in here… I am sure he has an opinion on the web stats topics….

Well I forgot to mention that Google Analytics does provide stats like operating system, browser, connection speed, resolution, and more. It’s under the different Dashboards, like Executive, Marketer, and Webmaster. Webmaster is probably the most interesting.
