Houston! Wii Have A Problem!
Nintendo’s new game console has been flying off the shelves at retail stores across the country this season. Consequently some of the Wii’s controllers have been flying across the living rooms of their owners! We have innocent bystanders that are getting whacked in the head, television sets that are getting blown out, windows that are getting shattered… you name it, and it has happened!
Nintendo Co. Ltd. said on Friday it will voluntarily exchange 3.2 million straps for its “Wii” game console controller following reports of damaged TVs and minor physical injuries caused by flying “Wiimotes.” Nintendo said customers who want to exchange straps can call toll-free at (800) 859-4519 between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Pacific time, or visit the company’s Web site at www.support.nintendo.com.
The controllers, which let gamers play by moving their arms, have been flying from the hands of excited players, even those who use a safety strap that goes around their wrists. These accidents have racked up such a high toll of smashed TV screens that Nintendo is now offering a heavy-duty wrist straps free of charge to all Wii users.
People are going to full extremes about this situation and have made various blog posts about the problems. There is one site in particular called, “Wii have a problem” which is a blog focused on bringing you the latest trend in gaming violence. That of damage caused by “window lickers” who should not be participating in activity of any form… yet own a Wii.
