MacBook Air is Thin But Is It Worth The Price?
I got excited when Apple unveiled the MacBook Air, but quickly that excitement turned into disappointment when I discovered the price and compared the system specs to the regular MacBook and MacBook Pro. I’ll give Apple this, The MacBook Air is without a doubt thin… and in fact it is awesome! But comparing the specs against the price is something that I found quite interesting.
The standard MacBook starts at $1,099 and comes with a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 processor up to a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor while the MacBook Air comes with a 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor up to a 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Memory on the standard MacBook comes with 1GB (two SO-DIMMs) with the option to upgrade to 4GB. The MacBook Air comes with 2GB of Integrated memory.

The MacBook weighs 5 pounds (2.27kg) and starts at $1,099. The MacBook Air weights 3 pounds (1.36kg) and starts at $1,799. Amazingly the MacBook Air is extremely thin; however, does being thin and lightweight justify the sacrifice in system specs and the almost double price?
What are your thoughts? I will be purchasing my first MacBook computer in a few weeks and I am torn between MacBook and MacBook Pro. However, I know for a fact that the MacBook thin is just not for me. Granted, it is very cool looking, but I don’t think it will work well for my line of work.
