What is the most popular Linux Operating System? Which Linux Operating system is right for you?

I am sure that you have heard of Linux before. You might know of it as an alternative to the Microsoft Windows operating system. You might know of it as one of the most poplar types of operating systems used for web hosting. But have you ever thought about which Linux operating system distribution is the most popular?

 There are some interesting statistics to be published about Linux. In Google the search term, “Red Hat” pulls up 143 million results in their index. The search term, “Ubuntu” pulls up 44 million results. The search term, “Fedora” pulls up 27 million , and the last term I searched for, “Mandrake”, pulls up 14 million. Overall you can see that Linux is purely a hot item in the search engines. But is this all a simple case of curiosity kills the cat, because I have installed Linux before… and unless you really know what you are doing, you will run into problems.

Based off these results, Red Hat Linux is the most popular… which I was guessing that anyway prior to searching. The interesting search term is, “Linux”, which returned 306 million results. So to see Red Hat Linux take almost half the numbers in the Linux results is pretty shocking. Microsoft still has Linux beat, and returns 403 million results in Google’s search index. Additionally, the search term, “Windows”, produces the most across the board with 603 million results. The Apple operating system doesn’t do too bad either, pulling up 256 million results.

If you are looking to experiment around with Linux, you can use any of the Linux distributions mentioned here in the article. My only suggestion to you is to invest plenty of time into  installing the software and educating yourself with the program.

Linux can be tons of fun, but it can quickly become your enemy if and when problems arise.
