Running An Old Operating System On A New Computer

Have you ever got bored and decided to do this? Such as installing Microsoft Windows 95 on a modern computer? I loaded Windows 95 and even Windows 3.1 my some what modern laptop. It was pretty neat to use the computer with the older operating system installed. It reminded, very quickly, of what things used to look like many years ago. There was one element, however, that was much different….. Speed.

Although, even though the system seemed to load faster in the more modern pc compared to how well it ran in the older system from its era, it seems to me that operating systems today, such as Microsoft Windows XP load much slower than older operating systems did, such as Windows 95, on a system of its time.
Why is that? To me it seems programmers are getting lazy. I understand that modern operating systems are more complex than older ones… but computer specs have increased over the years as well.

I have quite a few older computers around the house… (I sell new and used computers locally) and I decided to load Windows 95 onto a Pentium II 200 Mhz computer and compare its start up time compared to my Emachine desktop computer (Mid grade modern computer purchased at Wal-Mart. 2000MHZ AMD Processor). The Windows 95 computer completes its start up much quicker than my XP system. Of course though… Windows 95 is a fresh install and my XP system has been in dyer need for a reformat and reinstall. But, I would really bet that even after I did all that to my XP system, it would still be slower to load than the Windows 95 system.

My point again is that I think programmers are getting sloppy because they can bank on having all the extra room and extra resources on modern computers that they need, which enables them to create inefficient and poorly written code.

Am I far off from the truth? I have nothing really backing this other than personal comparision between the two computers mentioned above. Comments, questions, suggestions… I invite you to post your thoughts below.
