Dell Beep Codes - Are you looking for a list of Dell beep codes? Take a look at this complete listing of Dell beep codes. An introduction to BIOS beep codes When you power on your computer, the motherboard's basic input/output system (BIOS) first detects the computer's internal hardware configuration and then performs the power-on self-test (POST). The POST executes several diagnostic tests that check the basic functionality of the power supply, motherboard, CPU, I/O Bus Controller, RAM, keyboard, and video components. If the computer passes the POST, it will usually return a single short beep or two short beeps, depending on the BIOS manufacturer. If the POST detects any problems, it will halt the boot process and return an error message either visually on the screen and/or audibly through a series of beeps. Unfortunately, there is no official standard ... Continue reading »

IBM OmniFind Yahoo Edition - December 13, 2006 (IDG News Service) IBM Corp. and Yahoo Inc. have developed a free, entry-level, enterprise search application that at least one analyst believes will seriously disrupt the low-end segment of this market where Google Inc. has been selling many of its Mini search devices. IBM and Yahoo plan to release the server-side application on Wednesday as a free download aimed at companies that haven't tried out enterprise search due to cost and complexity concerns. The software, called IBM OmniFind Yahoo Edition, has been designed to be simple to install and use, and can index up to 500,000 documents from over 200 file types, including Adobe Systems Inc.'s PDF and Microsoft Corp.'s Word and Excel. With that indexing capacity, IBM OmniFind Yahoo Edition poses a significant threat ... Continue reading »
Apple’s iPhone to Integrate with Mac OS X Tiger - I just read two interesting articles about the Apple iPhone and how it will integrate heavily into the Mac OS X Tiger operating system. This will give users the able to sync your calendar, contacts, tasks, email, files, bookmarks, and whatever else. How much integration and how heavily Apple is counting on this to sell the phone is still to be determined. Apple took the latest iteration of its proprietary smart phone hardware and software in the early summer of 2005, slapped it together inside an enclosure reminiscent of a fourth-gen iPod, and hit the road. The objective at the time was to showcase the device's software to potential wireless partners and then appoint contractors to assess network requirements and the feasibility of certain features. Apple ... Continue reading »
An Old 286 8 MHz Computer Set Up As A Web Server - "This old 286 computer running at 8 MHz, with 1 MiB ram and no hard drive (the OS, all software and the site is on a single floppy!) still serves a purpose by acting as a fully functional web server running DR-DOS. Also includes a description of how to build your own server on an 8088 or newer, and links to all software required!" I found this on Digg and thought is was worth a mention here on BTI. The user SeBBBe announced this 16 hours ago, and needless to say, the digg traffic blast has crashed his server. Luckily we have an archive here and a youtube.com video here. read more | digg story Continue reading »
Check Out BTI’s New Look - Yesterday, I spent some time viewing, installing and experimenting with different themes for the site. I know that some will support this design, and others will not. I must say, that it is very difficult to find something premade that fits perfectly for what I am wanting to do. There are many things that I like and dislike about this theme... but that was the same for every other theme I tried as well. With a lot of thought and a little cleaning up wysiwyg and its the best I could find. Continue reading »
