When I first started blogging a few years ago, I enjoyed participating in Blog Memes. Quickly though as I learned more about the policies of search engines, I discovered that participating in them can harm your site in its ability to rank well in the search engines.
This is due largely for the fact that most blog memes replicate the behaviors of common link farms. Typically most blog memes consist of copying and pasting a list of links that point to the sites of participating users in the meme. The goal is to increase backlinks.
Major search engines such as Google and Yahoo are smarter than that now and if you participate in Blog Memes for the purpose of trying to increase backlinks to your site, you might get in trouble.
That kind of sucks though, because I really do enjoy blog memes a lot. I think they are fun, especially when they grow like wildfire. So, I present to you, what I would believe to be a Google Friendly Blog Meme.
At the time of writing this post, The Google SERP for the term SignTheGoogleGuestBook returned ZERO results. See screen shot below:
I am hoping that once this post gets indexed, it will appear on this SERP. For those that don’t know what SERP stands for, it means Search Engine Results Page.
SignTheGoogleGuestBook
SignTheGoogleGuestBook is a blog meme where you can write a post on your blog for the purpose of showing up on the SignTheGoogleGuestBook SERP page. Currently there are zero results, this will quickly change as blog memes tend to spread like wildfire throughout the Internet.
If you’re looking to get a lot of traffic to your blog, all you have to do is write a post like this:
Post Title: SignTheGoogleGuestBook - Your Name Was Here
(e.g. SignTheGoogleGuestBook - Garry Was Here)
Make sure that you do not add spaces in the post title… all ONE word, then the dash, Your Name Was Here.
The content of the post can say whatever your want… remember, you’re signing the Google Guest Book.
Below your paragraph of text, it would be very helpful to write about a paragraph or two of text explaining what you’re doing and invite your readers to do the same.
The more people that participate, the better.
So, lets see how many results we can fill up on the SignTheGoogleGuestBook SERP. Have fun and be sure to spread the Word…
Go all out.. Digg and Stumble this post… Digg and Stumble other participants posts… Digg and Stumble your own… Drop a comment here and ask others to do the same. Try to spread awareness about the Blog Meme and lets see how far this puppy will go!

Hey Garry, I haven’t done any of these memes in some time, but this looks like fun. I’m just getting started as a full time blogger, so please pardon me as I stumble across your sites. But so far I digg it! CyberCoder referred me.

@ Owen… you know I am just pulling your leg… well I mean the links are no follow, but just busting your chops a bit.
Cool, I just got indexed. I’m listed right below David on the first page. Google says you’re up to 51 now!
That is pretty cool… the page will continue to grow. That is the neat thing about blog memes. However, what is really unique in this case is the fact that observers can witness the viral effects memes have on search engines.
Ha, this is pretty clever! I’ll have to join in the fun
Good site fo you
