Software developers and licensing companies know if the Java software would become open source, that writing code would be quicker and easier. Sun invented this software development platform back in 1995. People have been fighting Sun Microsystems to make the Java open source. This finally happened, today.

Sun Microsystems opens the doors to most of the source code for their popular Java programing language today finally fulfilling an old six-month old promise.
Brian Behlendorf, chief technology officer of CollabNet and co-founder of the Apache project says, “They’re realizing that they don’t get to call all the shots in the world anymore”. Sun is acknowledging the rising importance of the software development community by releasing the code under the most common type of license in the open source community.
The 4 million Java developers from around the world can now get a look of the source code for the standard, enterprise, and mobile editions of Java. The mobile version which one would think would be the light version of the program contains over 6 million lines of code. Printed, this would equal 100,000 pages. By the end of March 2007, the rest of the code will become open source. Read more about Sun Microsytems and Java, here.
