The Everex Think CloudBook Review
Have you ever wanted to try Linux? Perhaps, maybe you made an attempt to install Linux once before on an existing older computer lying around the house? If you have tried to install Linux, chances are that it didn’t work out too well for you. With that said though, there is a reason why you want to install and use Linux. Perhaps maybe it’s just because it’s something new and different?
Also too, maybe you’re just not happy anymore using Microsoft Windows. Indeed, a lot of people are losing faith in Microsoft and more so than ever with Windows Vista on the shelves. Many people are quick to discover how poor Windows Vista is in quality. Out of the gate, Windows Vista requires a very fast computer to run it. Even still, once you install a few applications, performs of your system will sink like a brick.
My guess is that there are two primary groups of people who want to try Linux. As already mentioned those people would the folks who just simply want to experiment and the folks who want to break free from the chains of Microsoft. The greats news is now there is a very economical Linux based system on the market. It is a very simple and basic laptop that runs Linux and it is only available at Walmart and at NewEgg.com.
The system is called the Everex Think CloudBook. It is a very cute system with a very attractive price. Suggested retail price on this system is $399.00. Walmart’s regular price on this system is $349.00; however, it is actually on sale for $299.00. Now to me, that isn’t a very bad deal at all. I’d honestly pay $299.00 to have a system that was built exclusively to run Linux. It sure beats me trying to hack amd modify my existing computer at home.
The Everex Think CloudBook is very small. Systems of this size appeal to kids, so you might find that this could be a perfect back to school present for your child. The system has a 7inch screen and is only 9 inches. Amazingly the system has a battery life of up to 5 hours. The primary function of the Everex Think CloudBook is primarily for surfing the web, checking email and communicating with others using instant messengers.
Software preinstallled on the system include Mozilla Firefox, which by the way, I really enjoy using, Gmail, Gimp, which is very high grade photo editing software, some consider it as the open source version of PhotoShop. Additionally, OpenOffice suite comes installed as well as quite a few other applications.
Standard configuration of the Everex Think CloudBook includes a 1.2GHz VIC C7 M processor, 512 Megs of SDRAM and a 30gig hard drive. All in all, if you are wanting to experiment with Linux, I see this as being a very decent system to use and I believe that this system really gives you the best of both worlds. For instance, you don’t have to worry about installing Linux on computer designed for Windows and secondly, this is a system that is very appealing to kids.
Consequently, with the price at $299.00 you can’t go wrong with this purchase. Overall, I would say that this is a system worth considering, especially since the cost is very minimal for having a solid solution towards finally being able to experiment with Linux.

I think it would be cool owning one. I really like Linux but have always had some challenges with installing.
