If you don't like what has been going on, or are worried about what is or could start to happen with the future of what we come to know as the Internet. Search around or start asking people about the new private community intranet.
I vision a new Internet. I really do… I can see this happening pretty easily. Granted it would take a lot of time, work, and dedication… but are those not all elements of the first Internet? The new Internet I vision will start off with a few people connecting their computers together remotely with wireless connections into their computers. I would imagine that they would establish a section in their computer that would be for public viewing (i.e. C:\pub_intra\). When another computer catches the wireless connection they are able to access this special section. Whatever content is in this section would be what the visitor could view. View it how you like… folder view, web view. It really doesn't matter. The owner of this channel (if you want to call it that) would put anything he wanted in this section of the computer… content he found on someone elses channel, new unique content… someone might scan The Bible and make that available… someone might start a new News Channel, whatever… the Internet as we know it can start over… from scratch!
It all starts with you and getting wireless and finding someone close to you that has or is willing to get wireless and secondly is willing to share a connection with you and is open minded to sharing a public connection to his C:\pub_intra\ folder… and thirdly dedicated enough to putting content in there… in fact, while the original Internet is still out there… many people can make copies of it and put it in their C:\pub_intra\ folders… the folders can have new folders inside… creating categories… etc..
If we could get it to where this new little network could start growing huge like a virus… all it takes is a wireless connection between two computers whom both allow public access from other computers… whom they also allow public access to other computers whom also allow public access… and on and on and on…
Here is the kicker! With all these old junkie computers lying around…. who is to say an organization couldn't be created that collects all these old computers and has volunteer funding established to purchase wireless routers and distribute these computers out to people that would be willing to simply take the computer home and plug it in…. which now creates hubs or expansions to the network allowing more and more people access it within the new hubs range…
If someone right now came to my house… with an older computer and a wireless router and asked me to take the computer and plug it in after telling me about the cause and telling me that I would be helping contribute and expand the new Internet… I would agree! Why not? It would give me the ultimate access to connection because I would be the closest to the hub station because I would be accessing the hub station using my own computer in my own house, and two later on as the program advanced, the electric usage would be paid back by the organization… eventually the people would start seeing a value in this new network, and they we would see our first ad… just like when Yahoo had theirs…. someone will eventually create a new eBay… someone would end up creating a new Google… in the years to come… maybe Google would catch on and entirely support, manage, and run this new Internet.
