What Are RSS Feeds? - Part Two: Subscribing In IE7
- by Garry Conn
If you are like me, you love blogging. You enjoy reading many articles written by different blog publishers, you enjoy contributing and communicating your thoughts by publishing comments on other sites, and you enjoy running your own blog site and publishing your own unique content as well.
Blogging, and meeting new people is fun. But you can easily get lost and forget many wonderful people and many wonderful sites because, unfortunately due to human nature, you just simply forgot where the site was, or what the address was. (Does this remind you of why IE has “Favorites”?) Saving RSS feeds in IE7 is like “My Favorites on Steroids”. It is so easy to stay updated with your favorite blog sites using IE7.
When viewing a favorite site of yours… IE will tell you if an RSS feed is available. If the publisher of the site syndicates his content, the feed icon in your menu bar will light up. Anytime you see the feed icon light up, that means you can click on it and instantly subscribe to the feed. Just like traditional IE favorites, you can create categories and sub-categories for all of your rss feeds.
So what… who cares about RSS feeds… I will just add the site to my favorites. That is fine too… there is nothing wrong with using the favorites feature in IE. But what makes RSS Favorites in IE7 interesting, is the fact that you can view all the content from your favorite site without having to worry about slow loading pages because of pop ups, slow loading graphics, flash intro pages, etc… Viewing content in via a feed reader give you ONLY the content. If the publisher does include graphics in the article, those images do appear in most RSS readers. But again, you get the content… there are no sidebars, no option page links, products being sold, etc… just the article. Rss feeds are tons of fun, it just gives you another way to view the content on the Internet.
Viewing Content using RSS You Can Expect
