What Kind of Computer Is Right For Me?
Shopping for a computer can be very stressful. There are so many options available, so many different brands and way too much hype and propaganda about how wonderful each system is. If you’re trying to find a computer for your family and having a difficult time choosing a system, this short and sweet article will give you a little push in the right direction. I am not going to make recommendations; however, I will guide up down a path that will allow you the ability to make a sound decision.
Don’t shop at the store. Do your research online and at the privacy of your own home. If this is your first computer purchase and you obviously don’t have Internet access, go to your public library. It is quiet and you don’t have sales associates breathing down your back.
When you shop online, I don’t necessarily mean “Buy Online”, you can for sure make your purchase in a retail store. However, what I am suggesting is for you do do your research from the comfort of home or a quiet place. Visit many of the sites of the well known computer manufacturers. Most of these websites provide a ton of documentation on their products and services. Most all will give you examples of what kind of people each component, part, or upgrade cater to.
You don’t have to purchase the most expensive system available, nor is it advisable to default and purchase the cheapest system either. Closely look at the options available. Most websites will offer product comparisons which will give you a great visual tool and overview of their available systems and parts and who each system caters to.
What out for computers that are advertised too cheap. With computers, you do get what you pay for. Recently I purchased a cheap laptop for my wife and only a few months later it broke. About a year ago, a cheap notebook was purchased for my daughter… and too, it is broke. I own a Dell and paid a ton of money for it and it still works like a charm and they have come to my house to replace parts with the warranty program I enrolled into.
Apple VS Dell?
I am now fond of Apple computers. I don’t own one just yet, but I know they are good. However, they are a little more expensive compared to Dell. But I think their systems are well worth the money. They last, their support is superior to others and their systems are very fast and stable.
Windows Vista is a terrible operating system. It requires a huge amount of system resources to run properly and quickly. If you do decide to purchase a Windows based computer with Windows Vista installed. Do not get a computer with less than 2 gigs of memory.
All in all, just sit back, and take your time making the purchase. Look at the sales ads available. Print them out if you need to, or ask a friend to. Closely compare the system specs and look up the terms of things that you don’t know what they are to get a better understanding. Knowledge of what you’re buying is very important.
Consider this, you’re about to make a purchase (average price $1000 USD). You’re going to want to research that a lot. Anything else in this world with equal value you’d be very judgmental and cautious. Go into purchasing a computer with the same mentality.

What a great interesting and informative article.
I have an Apple Macbook pro. The poor little bugger has taken a good beating but is still operating. The scratches and pieces of plastic are only cosmetic damage I guess!

Hi Forest!
Yes Indeed… I want one and was just about to purchase one… but it would be selfish of me to do so now that my wife and I are expecting a new baby.
