Why Did My FeedBurner Subscription Numbers Drop?
FeedBurner is quickly becoming the new metric for judging a blogs authority on the Internet. In many cases people look at a blog’s FeedBurner subscription numbers and place more value in that compared to Google PageRank.
If you’re like me, you’re glued to your FeedBurner numbers. However, from time to time you might notice significant drops in your numbers. If and when this happens, don’t freak out. I remember the first time this happened to me and I thought to myself, “oh shit… I really screwed up this time. I’ve pissed off 75% of my readers and now they hate me!”.
While this could be a possibility, the likelihood of this being true is slim to none. Yes, you can piss your readers off to the point where masses will unsubscribe. But, unless you have done something “Really Freaking” stupid, it isn’t likely to happen.
FeedBurner numbers will drop quite frequently. What I have learned to do is quickly visit the blogs that I visit most often and look at their numbers as well. If their numbers have dropped at the same time my numbers have dropped, that indicates that there is a minor glitch in FeedBurner.com’s reporting. In other words, the problem isn’t just isolated to only my blog.
99% of the time, this is the case. So, if your numbers do drop, don’t freak out… check out all your friend’s blogs and see if their numbers dropped too. If they did, you’re fine. If they didn’t then you’re screwed… “Just Joking”.
If your numbers were the only blog’s numbers to have dropped, it is very possible that FeedBurner wasn’t able to collect data for the day on your blog. Take a deep breath and hold it for 24 hours until the next update. I am sure by then (and assuming that you don’t pass out) that things will be back to normal.
